Christmas? In October?

Well, it's that time of year again when I start thinking about what presents to make for my girls.

I had been working on ships again when a pancreatitis attack put me in the hospital for 9 days in the middle of August. The recovery from that took a month. From that experience, and not wanting to repeat it, I agreed to have my gallbladder removed. The surgery was last Friday and I am recovering again!

Anyway, since I'm stuck inside on light duty again, I decided to switch gears from ships to booknook gifts. The first one is for my oldest daughter. She is a Robert Jordan "Wheel of Time" book fan, and likes the Prime series as well. So I am attempting to create a booknook of the dead city Shadar Logoth from the first season. I have built the walls so far.

Sequence:

There is a lot more to do. There is scatter terrain that must be added like fallen stone blocks, rubble, dirt, wagon wheel(s). I will need to construct and decorate the case. Also the forest scene beyond the tear in the rear wall, the lighting, battery bank and switch.

Update: I added the 6 characters from the series season 1, episode 2 that showed Shadar Logoth.

When this one is done, the younger daughter gets a Pennywise booknook!

Your Christmas models are always a joy to behold and these look like they will be no exception. Sorry to hear about your pancreatitis Vol, but glad that you seem to be on the mend.

Thanks Lawrence, they are fun to do and are always a new experience. The only one I have repeated was the Sauron bursting through the book spine. The first one took a a couple of weeks. The 2nd one took a couple of days.
As for the health matter, my diet will just have to change a bit without a gallbladder, more moderation. The good news is the 25 pounds I have lost!

fun projects, and I'm sure greatly appreciated.
(unlike my entitled children).

Best wishes for a full recovery, and good health.

I was going to ask about the diet. I have a friend who has not had to change his diet at all, but I know another who is unable to eat rich foods after 4pm otherwise they are up in the middle of the night with stomach pains. I suppose it comes down to the individual and a bit of trial and error.

Yes that is what they tell me. I shod be able to eat fats in moderation. Without a gallbladder, I can't digest fats, so they just pass into the intestines. Too much and it can cause pain and diarrhea. Not pleasant, but it beats the pain of pancreatitis!

Thanks Stew

I had mine out a few years back now (for a 20mm stone) and the only thing that seems to bother me more than it used to is raw garlic. Hopefully you do not have to change much in your diet.

Looking forward to seeing how these progress, particularly like the city scene.

I hope that turns out to be my case as well David.
I'm having trouble finding the minis for the Shadar Lagoth nook. I need at least four unarmed mounted travelers. I can't find even one!

Maybe something like bow armed figures, and then remove the bow? A figure who is holding a bow (or sword or spear) could be made to be unarmed, and usually they are not (as) armored. E.G. Perry Female Turcoman horse archers.

Good ideas, all. And I did think about modifying. But I went through my entire lead and plastic piles and found only two partially suitable. So I went another route and just made some from flats of the characters and using spare horses I had. I posted update photos in the post.

Splendid work on your book nooks, great scenery and figures! I read lots of the wheel of time series but eventually gave up as I'd had enough! Hope your recovery is going well!

It is thanks, I seem to be able to eat most anything without issue so far. Even a shot of Teeling single malt Irish Whiskey my youngest brought me today, back from her trip to Ireland.
I read a lot of Robert Jordan 50 years ago. I don't remember much of them now. The Prime series was like new for me, but it probably doesn't follow the books well, so...
