Black Seas Frigate Chesapeake Finished

I finally finished this 1/700 scale ship! It wouldn't normally have taken so long but I have only been able to work about a half hour per evening in the hobby room for the last month. This one is pretty much stock with just a few embellishments. The next one will have some modifications.

You can see the winged angel figurehead

Good shot of the aft and quarter davits with boats

Shown with my scratch built 1/1200 Chesapeake

I think I'm going to have fun with these Black Seas ships

Gorgeous craftsmanship on the frigate. Love your photo backdrops too!

Thank you Jonathan
The backdrops are something I put together back when I was working and had access to a printer that would do 11x17 paper. Unfortunately I had to fold them in half to fit them in my carry-on travel bag coming home. So they all have an ugly crease in the middle. I try to shoot to one side or the other to keep the crease out of the picture. That failed in the first shot.

Ah-mazing! Really great job. I’ve been waiting for you to post a complete ship and I am Not disappointed. Which scale do you like better? Your rat lines came out looking Ace. Why no base? The lack of a bae doesn’t detract from the miniature but it’s unexpected.

Glad the miniature was fun to build, as you have a lot of them. 😀

Thanks buddy. Weelll.....I had initially thought I would just make a sea base like I do with the little guys. But then I saw JJ's Stadium (Pill) clear acrylic bases. They look pretty nice and show through what ever sea mat they are sitting on. He gets them from a supplier in the UK. I just haven't found a reasonable supplier in the US yet. I may have to buy some arylic sheet to cut & polish my own. Next I need to buy some 1/600-1/700 Eduard aircraft carrier figs to convert to crews!

I’ve seen the clear bases and those do look really good. IThe only place I know where to look for them would be Lotko. I Also like the idea of adding crew on this scale to really bring the ship to life. 😀

You mean Litko? They don't have the sizes.
Brig = 90MM X 35MM
Frigate = 110MM X 35MM
Third Rate = 130MM X 35MM
1st & 2nd Rate = 150MM X 35MM
The only place I can find so far is the one JJ uses in the UK.

Damn Vol, that really looks nice! I especially like the sails, with a focus on the headsails. Surely these are not stock from the kit? I mean, knowing your work there's no way they are stock, but I still have to ask. 😁

Hello Brian!
Yes to your question, these are the stock sails. They are ok, but the staining is a bit over the top for my taste and the card they are printed on is too heavy, so they are difficult to shape properly. I may try soaking to soften them up a bit, or maybe experiment with some cloth sails. Did you notice the blocks in the rigging?

Splendid looking ship. Outstanding hobby style work too. The sea looks real cool looking down on it. BB
