1/700 Scale 10 Gun Sloop

After making the naval cutter from the Black Seas generic brig, I wanted something a little sleeker and not so unrealistically broad. I thought about it quite a bit and decided War Artisan's 10 gun sloop was just the ticket. I had already made one in 1/300 and 1/1200 scales, so why not a 1/700 scale model. So here it is, complete with protruding guns at quarters and mounted on one of the new acrylic bases I am making for the BS ships now. Hope you like it.

With a BS brig

With the bashed corvette

With a BS 38 gun frigate

Sloops left to right: 1/1200, 1/700, 1/300

Really excellent modeling. A fine little ship. I like the bases a lot too. 😀

Nicely done! I 'll have to give War Artisan's models another look for 1/700. And it may be just my opinion, but Warlord's brigs seem awfully portly. Sadly, your input is sorely missed on that "other" forum (but we all know what the problem is over there. I'm another member of the ever growing 'Banned-by-Bill' group).

Thanks Stew

Hello Grant, yes they are, portly I mean. And the little cutter I made from the two brigs is portly too. On the other hand, the corvette looks nice and sleek. Sorry to hear you've been 86'd from TMP as well. Join the club. I do miss a lot of folks from over there. Unfortunately he took me out before I could say goodbyes and trade comm info. I'm glad you found me. Do you have a blog?

Vol,
Those 1/700 ships you are doing look really great! If I didn't have so many 1/1200 ones or if I were just starting out, I would be looking really hard at those.

Hello Brian, nice to hear from you. Yeah I hear you about the 1/1200 ships. I have nearly 100 built and that many more unbuilt, not to mention the number of scratch built hulls started and waiting to be finished. I kept seeing these 1/700 ships here and there and they looked really good. I had to try one. So I bought a couple of squadron packs, then I traded with Stew for a USS Constitution. Now I've ordered 6 3D hulls from Henry Turner in the UK!

Vol,

No blog (sadly, my last attempt died of lack of attention. I think I posted 2 entries in 3 years!). The toxic environment on TMP has driven a good number of people away or caused others to be 'BBB'. Unfortunately, for naval nuts like us, there's not a lot alternatives. As for the 1/700s, I've been playing a lot of Post Captain with them (small brig vs brig, frigate vs frigate type actions). And, 'cuz I had the darn things from my 1/700 WWII ship modeling days, I've even added photo etched crew figures (for the real crazies among us!).

Eduard minis, yes I have them too. Used them to man a couple of fort batteries. But I have yet to make the effort to man a ship with them. As for the forum sites, I post occasionally on TWW, The Wargames Website in the Air and Sea category. And its administrator is a sane person and decent gentleman.

Lovely looking trio of sloops!

Thanks Iain, Jeff's War Artisan ships are actually pretty nice, especially at the smaller scales where it's hard to tell they are card.
Cheers,

Hi Vol,
I’m pleased to see the finger survived all that pain and trauma and you’re back in action.
I really like the way you’ve done the blocks on your rigging, great stuff, but I don’t think I would have enough patience.
Interested to see yours and others comments about the ‘forum that shall not be named‘. It is certainly a lot different these days with the majority of posts generated by one person. It’s such a shame that so many others that I chat with on other forums and blogs are no longer on there adding to the chat.

Love the conversions and the War Artisan model.

Thanks JJ. The finger has mostly healed, still can't straighten or bend it completely as before and the feeling hasn't returned. The "blocks" are just a touch of PVA painted brown, quite easy and quick to do.
