Two Davco 30 Gun East Indiamen

These two ships are the Davco 30 gun East Indiaman. The little flyer says "NS82 The Pitt. This model depicts a medium sized vessel which would be found on the East or West Indies Trade. Well armed and efficient, these ships often sailed alone or, if convenient, with a fast convoy. 18 x 12 pdrs & 12 x 6 pdrs."

I looked up the Pitt and found two East Indiamen with that name. The earlier one was originally a French East Indiaman named the Pondichery, captured by the Brits in 1756. It was a 30 gun ship.
The other ship was originally named Fortitude, built in 1780, and renamed Pitt in 1785. Both ships were approximately the same size but the later one was only pierced for 24 guns.

So I am modeling these two ships as the earlier ship. One as the French East Indiaman and the other as the British East Indiaman.

I have one more merchant left to do; the Davco NS81 50 gun East Indiaman Lord Clive. But I am feeling a bit like doing something else sooooooooo...........

Davco 18-Gun French Saint-Malo Corsair

The second Davco xebec I had started has ended up as a Saint-Malo French corsair. Why Saint-Malo you ask? Because that is the only French corsair ensign I had available. There are 18 guns/ports on this model and I have no idea what size they are. Probably 8 to 12 pounders would be my guess. Hope you like it.

Davco 18 Gun Spanish Xebec

I had a couple of 18 gun xebecs that I beleive are Davco but I'm not sure, They could possibly be Navwar. The hulls seem too crisp to be Navwar, but the sails are too "primitive" to be Davco. So I really don't know. No matter since I scratch built the masts, spars and sails anyway. This xebec I modeled as a Spanish corsair.

Davco Indefatigable & Anson Razeed 44 Gun Ships

One of my favorite built ships is the Davco 64 gun Agamemnon.  The Agamemnon was an Ardent class 64 and so was her sister ship the Indefatigable. When Indefatigable was razeed to a 44 gun ship in 1794, they only removed a deck, they did not shorten her at all. The Langton Indefatigable is shorter than the Langton Agamemnon by quite a bit and of course the Navwar Agamemnon and Indefatigable aren't even close. The Davco models match perfectly with Indefatigable being identical to the Agamemnon minus a deck. I am very happy I chose to model the Davco version of Agamemnon rather than the Langton back when I built it. I still haven' built the Langton ship and will probably build it as the Africa or another class of 64.

So back to the subject of this post. I had two of the Davco Indefatigable hulls so I built the second one as HMS Anson. Anson was a different 64 class, Intrepid, but close enough to the Ardent class with a difference of only 7-1/4 inches in length. .She was also razeed in 1794

Both ships had long and distinguished careers.
